Gaius Julius Caesar was born c. July 12 100 BCE into a well-known and noble family in Rome. His father, Gaius Caesar, was the praetor of a province in Asia and his mother, Aurelia Cotta, was of noble birth yet his family were far from rich. Julius had 2 sisters whom were named Julia (Julia Caesaris Major and Julia Caesaris Minor). At the age of 16, Julius' father died but remained very close to his mother.
At the time of his father's death, Julius made an effort to side with country's nobility, marrying a daughter of a noble, Cornelia Cinna. His marriage to the young noble was drawn to the attention of the Roman Dictator of te time, Sulla, who ordered him to divorce his wife or risk losing his property. Cornelia gave birth to his first and only daughter in 76 BCE before passing away 69 BCE giving birth to his son. 2 year after the death of his first wife, Julius remarried to a distant relative of Pompey, Pompeia as his wife. Pompey, at the time, married Julius' daughter Julia. Their marriage lasted a few years before they divorced in 62 BCE.
